Susan Eckert is Senior Associate Dean for Administration at Emory University's Nell Hodgson Woodruff
School of Nursing in Atlanta. She received her PhD in Higher Education Policy from
Georgia State University and her doctoral research addressed the characteristics
of biomedical science faculty and their research success. She is co-author with
Jeremy Boss of Academic Scientists at Work: Navigating the Biomedical Science Career,
which is in its second edition. She and Dr. Boss co-wrote the "Scientists at Work"
monthly column in Science's NextWave . Dr. Eckert is active in the National Association of University
Research Administrators and leads workshops directed at creating collaborations between university
administrators and faculty scientists and engineers. She is a member of the Board of Directors of
Georgia's DeKalb Technical College and chairs the education committee for the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta.
