During the Fall and
Spring semester, FORWARD schools as well as others who wish to participate
may join a one-credit seminar course that uses electronic networks to link
students, faculty and mentors on issue-focused, team collaboration projects
that stimulate growth and development of valuable skills needed for careers
in science, engineering and mathematics disciplines. The goals of
the seminar are to:
-
blend research methodology into
technical project activities so that students experience doing science,
engineering and mathematics as actually practiced today
-
provide an accessible forum where
participants can actively confer with distant team members and practice
achieving goals with teamwork
-
In several ways, the seminar will
go beyond, but not compete with activities pursued within the classroom.
The project activities will:
-
be multidisciplinary, reflecting
the cross section of participating individuals and schools
-
challenge participants and schools
to use computer networks and electronic publishing tools in ways that go
beyond e-mail
-
engage participants with reporting
broad as well as narrow issues, professional as well as personal concerns,
technical as well as human implementation details
-
be directed on rotating basis
by participating schools (there will be no central teaching site)
-
If you and/or your school wishes
to join some, or all of the activities, let FORWARD
know. We will be happy to work with you.
